The winter can be a difficult time for many. The days are shorter and the weather is colder and things can feel a whole lot harder. Although there are many exciting and festive elements of the winter season, there can also be great stress and loneliness for many. Embracing our wellness and wellbeing this winter is an important priority we must focus on.

We can find ourselves at times during the winter seasons feeling stuck and less motivated and this can be hard to navigate through, especially when you see the world around you moving so quickly. So when we make a conscious decision to embrace wellness and healing there are key areas that are important to explore and focus on.
I think it's important to make a winter wellness plan for yourself this winter. This will look different for everyone as there are always going to be different aspects of life that we see involved in our wellness.
A good place to start when building our winter wellness plan is looking at how we want to feel this winter. Do we want to feel calmer, excited, happy, energised etc. These feelings are what we are going to base our wellness plan around and at every step we will consider if this will impact how we feel in our day to day life.
Building a steady routine is often a key stage for evaluating our wellness. It's important that we can make a routine that we can maintain even when life is at its busiest. If a routine is only adding another layer of stress to our day then it is not worth it. Therefore, it is important to look at what simple things can be done and changed that will make a significant difference. This is often simple things like waking up slightly earlier or making a more fulfilling breakfast. One thing I think people often forget when starting a routine is that it doesn't have to be done daily. There are routines that can be done every other day that will increase your overall wellness. This may be making sure that every other day you are going out for a walk or a run. This can be way easier to maintain than putting pressure on yourself to achieve this every day.
Another key element of wellness during the winter is an emphasis on allowing yourself to slow down. Just like the season and nature around us, the winter is a time to slow down and take time to recover. It is impossible to be our best and most alive self all year round. Taking a step back and slowing down slightly can do a world of good for our mental and physical health. Although it can be hard during the festive season to not find ourselves rushing around, it is important to make time to relax and reflect. By doing this it allows us to become clearer and enjoy things more fully.
Embracing wellness this winter doesn't have to mean buying all the latest wellness 'tricks' and brands but rather appreciating the time and season we are in. The world around us is always moving quickly and is ever-changing. Taking the time to stop and appreciate where we are and where have been is a key element to appreciating and looking after ourselves.
Are there any areas of life you think wellness impacts significantly more during the winter seasons? Let me know how you plan to embrace wellness this winter!
